BACKBONE SURGERY of patient. Zia Ullah (Reg. # 11201-7478435-3) son of Barkat Ullah (Reg. # 11201-3275436-5), resident of District Lakki Marwat KP is a 14 years old boy with a severe vertebral column problem. He was given local pain killers but that couldn’t alleviate his condition since a permanent cure was required. Upon detailed examination in CMH Rawalpindi, LRH Peshawar and Ali Medical Complex Islamabad doctors found that one of his vertebrae at lower back region had collapsed or prolapsed. Consequently, he was advised surgery for spinal fixation meaning some artificial metallic fixators were to be inserted into his spine. If not operated he would have faced chronic pain and nerve compression problems. Nerve compression problems could lead to paralysis but in advanced cases depending upon the degree of prolapse and degree of compression. In these circumstances surgery was necessary but due to poverty the patient family couldn’t afford his treatment expenses. This patient family accessed LF for assistance and they were provided complete surgery cost in addition to three months medication and ambulance services. Now this patient is living a normal life with his family.
