ACCESS ROAD FOR RESIDENTS of village Riat, U.C. Mora Kalan, Tehsil/District Muzaffarabad, AJ&K. The village consists of 100 households and the approximate population of the village is 700 individuals. This downtrodden and remote population has no/less education, health, and other allied facilities available due to which they have to travel on foot to far-off places on a daily basis which turns very difficult during harsh weather conditions. The project area was earthquake affected during 2005; a lot of the transport means and roads were destroyed during this catastrophe. The loss of homes, hospitals, educational institutes, and roads has left the local population crippled. The businesses were affected and this resulted in the downfall of living standards. Therefore, transport and mobility are constitutional elements of villages that needed to be organized sustainably. The community approached the Lakki Foundation as a last resort for the construction of a 1.5 km jeep track from the road head to the village. To ensure ownership, people were mobilized to provide 50% of the total cost of the construction to which they agreed. Jeep track was constructed and now they are connected to nearby towns to fulfilling their day-to-day needs.
